Investment opportunities abound in country and regional Queensland

Investment opportunities abound in country and regional Queensland. Just ask property developer, David Thompson.

After visiting Country Week last year, David Thompson headed straight to Quilpie in the heart of western Queensland to look at the opportunities on offer.

“My initial thoughts were to provide accommodation for people working in the mining industry in the Quilpie region,” said David.

“With the increasing cost of air fares, the fly in- fly out system  operated by many mining companies is becoming very expensive. I believe there is real potential for housing developments catering for mine workers and their families close to where they are working.

“Towns like Quilpie are very safe and have a lot to offer families,” he said. David Thompson said that Country Week was where he initially found the information he needed to head off to Quilpie.

“The people on the Quilpie stand were really friendly and were able to provide me with lots of information. In fact I think they won the award for the best exhibitor and when I heard that, I wasn’t surprised at all,” David said.

“During my visit to Quilpie I spoke to mining companies, Council officers, real estate agents, builders and business people. Everyone was positive about the potential of residential development in the town.”

David Thompson’s plans are still in the developmental stage but he’s excited about his prospects in the future. Quilpie Mayor David Edwards agrees that the potential for development in his town is great.

“A large building block with sewerage and water connected will only set
someone back about $8 000,” said the Mayor. Quilpie’s Economic Development Manager, Monica James said that house and land values were also attracting retirees to the area.

“I know of one couple who sold up in the city for over $600 000 and bought
in Quilpie for $80 000,” she said. “They travel about and base themselves in

Quilpie. They have a very relaxed lifestyle and nice nest egg to invest.”
